Culturally Responsive Teaching

Open Circle's Director, Kamilah Drummond-Forrester presented a workshop on culturally responsive teaching at the Essex County Learning Community's (ECLC) 2019 Summer Institute. Culture plays a role not only in communicating and receiving information, but also in shaping the thinking process of groups and individuals. Teaching children with a culturally responsive lens engages learners while respecting cultural integrity. It accommodates the dynamic mix of race, ethnicity, class, gender, region, religion, and family that contributes to every student's cultural identity.
