MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR - MARCH 2019
Kamilah Drummond-Forrester, Director Of Open Circle
As the Director of Open Circle, I have had the honor of witnessing first-hand the power of social and emotional learning to make a difference for children and families. At the core, Open Circle emphasizes the power of genuine relationships. I remain committed to Open Circle because of this focus on human relationship as a vehicle for teaching and learning, healing and connecting—which feels like it is needed now more than ever. I’m inspired to be at the helm building for the future of Open Circle so that we can continue to foster safe, caring, and respectful learning communities.
As a leader in the field of social and emotional learning (SEL), Open Circle is working to create a more dynamic and interactive approach to curriculum development and programming. Here are two key initiatives Open Circle is working on:
Exploring Middle School
Thanks to the generosity of the Morningstar Family Foundation, Open Circle received seed funding to begin exploring development of a middle school pilot program. This will expand the reach of our program to even more schools, teachers, and students.
Simply teaching social and emotional learning without an intentional focus and awareness on issues of equity and how these issues may impact the teaching, implementation and learning of SEL skills is insufficient. Our team is taking steps to elevate equity as central to the successful implementation of our program.
In addition to providing high quality SEL focused professional development, we are always excited to learn from our Open Circle schools and districts…
How has Open Circle influenced your classroom/school/district?
What activities keeps you inspired and engaged in your classroom/school?
How can Open Circle support your SEL growth and development?
If you would like to share your feedback with us please contact us at email@example.com or call us at (781) 283-3277.
Thank you for all you do to keep the focus on relationships for your students, your school, and your community. We are looking forward to supporting your SEL needs for the 2019-2020 season.
