Bethany joined Open Circle as a coach and trainer in 2008. Bethany is the former founder and Director of Project Aspire from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, a complementary SEL initiative in the Boston Public Schools. Prior to that work, Bethany was a clinician with children and families in outpatient, inpatient and school-based settings, including as a staff clinician at the Manville School, Judge Baker Children’s Center. Bethany has extensive experience as a clinical supervisor of graduate level interns in education and social work and has a private practice treating children and adolescents. Montgomery received her B.A. in psychology from Oberlin College and her M.S.W. from Simmons Graduate School of Social Work. Her interests include workshop design, social awareness literacy, improving school climate in behalf of students, families and staff, community activism, and enhancing service-learning opportunities in schools for students.  She feels strongly about bringing primary prevention through social and emotional learning to schools, with a particular passion for enhancing this work in urban settings.
